Product Backlog
A product backlog is a single, ordered, ever-evolving list of everything a team might build — features, fixes, and improvements — prioritized by value and readiness.
The backlog is the team's working agenda for the product. Items near the top are well-understood and ready to build soon, while items lower down are broader and less defined. It is deliberately never finished: as new feedback, ideas, and constraints arrive, items are added, reordered, refined, or removed so the list stays an honest reflection of current priorities.
It matters because it makes priorities visible and decisions explicit. A healthy backlog gives the team a shared, ranked view of what is next and why, prevents work from living in scattered notes, and creates a natural place to weigh new requests against existing ones. A neglected backlog becomes a graveyard of stale ideas nobody trusts.
Keeping a backlog grounded in demand means feeding it with real customer input. In Feedjolt, grouped requests and votes flow toward the backlog as evidence, so what rises to the top reflects what customers actually want rather than whatever was added most recently.
