Internal notes
Internal notes are a private comment thread on every Feedjolt post, visible only to owners and admins. Add triage context invisible to end users, on every plan.
Every post has a parallel comment thread that's only visible to OWNER and ADMIN. Internal notes are available on every plan.
Writing one
In the comment composer, tick Internal note. The note appears with an amber INTERNAL pill (mono font, lock icon) and a soft amber background, distinct from public comments. Never sent to end users or shown in the public portal.
Filtering
Above the comment thread, admins see a chip row to filter the view: All notes / Internal only (with count) / Public only. Useful when triaging a post with a long mixed thread.
Switching visibility
Posted a note internal that should have been public - or the reverse? OWNER and ADMIN see a Make public / Make internal action on every comment's action row. It flips the note between the two states in place - no need to delete and repost.
Toggling visibility only changes who can see the note inside Feedjolt - it doesn't re-send notifications or re-sync the note to Linear.
What internal notes are for
- Triage context. "ACME (10k MRR) just brought this up on a renewal call."
- Decisions. "We're not doing this until SAML SSO ships."
- Cross-references. "Related: [internal Linear issue]." or "Bundle with #142."
- Disagreement. Two ADMINs can argue privately and post a single, clean public reply.
What they aren't for
- Customer-facing replies. Use a public comment.
- Sensitive personal data. Internal notes are still in our database. Don't paste credit cards or passwords. (We log/audit access; we won't see them by default, but they exist.)
Visibility
| Audience | Sees internal notes? |
|---|---|
| OWNER | ✅ |
| ADMIN | ✅ |
| CONTRIBUTOR | ❌ |
| End user (your customer) | ❌ |
| The post author (when end user) | ❌ |
| Public portal viewers | ❌ |
The post's public thread shows no indicator that internal notes exist. End users can't tell.
Notifications
Internal notes don't trigger end-user notifications. They do trigger member notifications if a member subscribed to comment events on the post.
If your Slack channel is mapped to comment.created events, internal-note Slack messages have a 🔒 icon and a "(internal)" suffix to make it clear.
Editing and deletion
- Authors can edit/delete their own internal notes.
- ADMINs can delete any internal note.
- Edits are recorded but don't bump the comment to the top of the thread.
Auditing
GET /api/posts/{id}/comments?include_internal=true returns all internal notes via the API (ADMIN-scoped key required). Useful for compliance / export needs.
Merging duplicates
When two Feedjolt posts are the same idea, merge them to combine votes and comments. Learn how to merge, pick the survivor, when not to, and the API call.
Saved views
Bookmark a filter and sort combo on a Feedjolt board's posts list. Personal, per-board saved views: how to use them, what gets saved, limits and plan tiers.
