Roles & permissions
Feedjolt has three workspace roles, OWNER, ADMIN, and CONTRIBUTOR, plus end users. See the full permission matrix covering posts, voting, billing, and more.
Feedjolt has three workspace roles plus a separate end-user identity (your customers).
The three roles
- OWNER - full control. Includes billing and workspace deletion. There must be at least one. Usually one or two people.
- ADMIN - runs the day-to-day. Manages members (except other admins/owners), boards, integrations, settings. Most of your triage team.
- CONTRIBUTOR - limited write access. Can create posts and vote, can't moderate, can't see internal notes. Useful for engineers/designers who log their own ideas.
End users (your customers) are not workspace members; they have their own identity tied to the public portal.

End-user identity
End users are the people submitting feedback in your portal. They:
- Can sign in via magic link (email) on public/authenticated boards.
- Are scoped per workspace - your end-user account at
acme.feedjolt.comis different from your end-user account atglobex.feedjolt.com. (Same email; separate identities.) - Are not workspace members. They don't show up in your member list.
- Submit, vote, comment. They cannot triage.
If a customer becomes part of your team, invite them as an ADMIN - they'll have a separate workspace identity.
Edge cases
- You can't demote yourself if you're the only OWNER. Promote someone else first.
- Removing the last OWNER is blocked. Same reason.
- Workspace seat limits apply to OWNER + ADMIN only. CONTRIBUTOR seats and end-user seats are unlimited on every plan.
- Admin-seat caps per plan: Startup 2 (OWNER + 1 ADMIN), Growth 25, Scale 50. Need more? See plans.
Why these roles?
We picked the smallest role model that supports both a 2-person startup and a 50-person product team. More roles (sub-admins, board-scoped roles) sound nice but compound: every UI element gains a "who can see this?" question. We may add granular roles later if customers really need it. Default is opinionated; trust the team you've assembled.
