Getting started

Pick a data region

Pick where your Feedjolt file uploads live: EU or US. The choice is per-user, permanent, and inherited by your workspaces. Learn how routing and GDPR work.

When you sign up, you choose where your data lives: EU or US. The choice is per-user and immutable - we don't move data between regions, ever.

What's the difference?

  • EU: file uploads (logos, post attachments) are stored in feedjolt-eu-private - Cloudflare R2 in an EU region.
  • US: same thing, but the bucket is feedjolt-us-private.

Database storage is unified (a single Postgres physically in EU); the region choice currently only routes file storage. If your compliance review asks "where do our files live?", the answer matches the region you picked.

Which should I pick?

  • In the EU, or selling to EU customers? Pick EU. Easier conversations during procurement.
  • In the US, or you don't have a strong preference? Pick US.
  • Selecting "no preference" defaults to US.

What about workspaces?

When you create a workspace, it inherits your region. Every workspace member can be in any region - but the workspace's region (and its files) is fixed by the creator.

This means: if you're an EU user and you join a US workspace, files uploaded to that workspace go to the US bucket. Your own user-region preference doesn't override the workspace's region.

Why is it permanent?

Moving data between regions reliably is harder than it looks (file references, presigned URLs, downstream backups, audit trails). Rather than offer it as a half-broken feature, we don't offer it at all. If you really need to move regions, the path is: export your data, delete the workspace, recreate it under the new region.

What about GDPR?

EU users on the EU region: your file storage stays in the EU and a Data Processing Addendum (DPA) is available on request. Email [email protected].
